LAKESIDE COTTAGE

Lakeside Cottage is the perfect location for lovers of wildlife and quiet walks. The cottage is set within breathtaking countryside and its grounds are continuous with the Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve. The garden stretches down to the secluded and reed fringed Haweswater Tarn were you can sit in peace and watch out for bittern, kingfisher, marsh harriers and otters. In Winter time you may see the murmurations over the lake, an amazing spectacle.

LAKESIDE COTTAGE

Perfect for a couple or family of four

The cottage was originally a gamekeepers cottage and dates back to the 1800s.  It is a semi-detached stone built cottage and is located at the end of a lane which leads into a National Nature Reserve.  It is compact and cosy with an open plan living room and kitchen downstairs, two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs.

The kitchen has been renovated to a high standard and the bedrooms and stairs have recently been fitted with new carpets.

The master bedroom has a comfortable double bed with a fabulous view over the reedved at the bottom of the garden. The second bedroom contains bunk beds and a view of the rare breed pigs snuffling in the field opposite!

The bathroom comprises a modern bathroom suite with a bath and shower which also overlooks the lake.

The lounge has a wood burning stove ensuring you will be warm and cosy. The new kitchen is stylish and well equipped with a modern oven and induction hob, microwave, fridge and belfast sink.

Outside is a large back garden with a patio seating area. There is a path down to the lake through the reed bed with a seating platform which overlooks the lake.

A great place to sit and contemplate while watching the world go by.

Super fast broadband is available within the cottage via B4RN, a community run organisation linking local people together.

LOCAL AREA

GAIT BARROWS NATIONAL NATURE RESERVE

Just outside the front door is the entrance to Gait Barrowns NNR, which is managed by Natural England. It is a beautiful area of  woodland, meadow and a nationally important area of limestone pavement, a habitat which is extremely rare in this country.

SILVERDALE

Silverdale is the nearest village, a short drive away or a 20 minute walk.  It provides for all your local needs with two good pubs, a restaurant, a Cooperative supermarket, a cafe and a beautiful beach.  The Wolf house on the outskirts of the village at Gibralter Point, also provides tasty home cooked produce, perfect after a walk around the stunning coastline at Jenny Browns point.

LEIGHTON MOSS RSPB RESERVE

One of the key draws to the area is Leighton Moss, a stunning wetland supporting some of the country's rarest wildlife including bearded tits, the marsh harrier and bittern.   A must for keen bird watchers, it is also a lovely place to visit with the family. There are wildlife trails, a visitor centre and shop and a lovely cafe.

TROWBARROW QUARRY

Within a short walk is a fabulous disused quarry which is now a nature reserve and popular rock climbing area.  It is a great place to bring your bikes, providing safe off road tracks.  It also supports fly and bee orchids and birds of prey are often see flying overhead.

Take Care

The stairs in the cottage are quite steep and may be tricky for the elderly or very young.

There is open water near the cottage and access to the lake from the garden. The lake is unfenced and the water is very deep with thick mud at the edges.  It is not possible to swim from our jetty and the use of boats is prohibited on the lake.
